A musician with a long and outstanding career, Lito Epumer is gifted with great flows of creativity and an amazing technique in his guitar execution. He is respected by his peers and recognised by the audience as one of the best guitarists in Argentina.
His beginnings date back from 1975, with Argentinean musicians Pedro Aznar and J.C. Fontana in the jazz group Madre Atómica. It wasn’t long before doors were opened for the the three musicians, inviting them to walk some roads that they couldn’t turn down.
Epumer came in contact with musicians of diverse trajectories, such as Luis Alberto Spinetta, Lito Vitale, Rubén Rada or Dino Saluzzi, among others. Parallely, he develops his own solo career, putting together different groups of acomplished musicians. Coming close to the rock-Jazz of the 1980’s, Epumer’s compositions transit through the Argentinean jazz, which coincide with his origins.
Of Ranquel origin –a tribe that inhabited in La Pampa and from which there are only a handful of survivors left-, Lito Epumer reaches his last album with a close proximity to folklore and candombe, with a regional jazz in which his compositions are the clearest examples of the moment that Argentinean jazz is going through right now.
The album’s title is Nehuén (which means "strong" in mapuche language.) It was recorded in 2002 and it contains eight tracks, four of which were composed by Lito Epumer. It is a work that keeps the elements related to improvisation and some harmonies that have to do with jazz music, but, fundamentally, it’s an album that "looks toward within." The musicians that accompany Lito Epumer are of great recognition and respect among their peers. They are: On piano and accordion, Gustavo Liamgot; on drums, Cristián Judurcha and on percussion, Mario Gusso. They comform a solid group when it comes to create certain music climates.
It is only necessary to observe their technique, their capacity to move us, and to enjoy their compositions to understand why Lito Epumer is one of the most important musicians in the scene of local jazz and one of the most prestigious guitarists of Argentinean music.

Als Musiker mit einer langen, beeindruckenden Karriere hat Lito Epumer die Gabe eines hohen kreativen Potentials und einer eindrucksvollen Technik beim Gitarrenspiel. Er wird von anderen Musikern bewundert und vom Publikum als einer der besten Gitarristen Argentiniens angesehen. Seinen Start als vieversprechender Künstler hatt er 1975 mit den argentinischen Musikern Pedro Aznar und J.C. Fontana in der Jazzban Madre Atómica - für alle drei der Ausgangspunkt einer großen Laufbahn. Epumer musizierte im Lauf der Jahre mit Luis Alberto Spinetta, Lito Vitale, Rubén Rada oder Dino Saluzzi, um nur einige zu nennen. Parallel dazu arbeitete er an seiner Solokarriere.
Da er der Herkunft nach ein Ranquel ist - ein Stamm aus La Pampa, von dem es heute nur mehr eine Handvoll Überlebende gibt - verbindet Lito Epumer in seinem letzten album Folklore und Candombe mit regionalem Jazz. Diese Komporitionen stellen eine Momentaufnahme des argentinischen Jazz dar. der Titel des Albums ist Nehuén ("stark" in der Sprache der Mapuche). Es wurde 2002 aufgenommen, von den acht Liedern stammen vier aus Epumers Feder. Improvisationen und Jazzharmonien sind dieser Arbeit sehr nahe, im Grunde ist "der Blick nach innen" das zentrale Element von Nehuén.
Es ist nur nötig ihre Technik und ihre Fähigkeit uns zu bewegen zu beobachten und ihre Kompositionen zu genießen, um zu verstehen, daß Lito Epumer einer der wichtigsten Musiker der lokalen Jazzszene und der bekannteste argentinische Gitarrist ist.

Guitarrista argentino, de origen ranquel. Desde que en 1975 fundó Madre Atómica junto al Mono Fontana y Pedro Aznar, Lito Epumer participo de los proyectos de músicos de trayectorias tan diversas como Luis Alberto Spinetta (Spinetta Jade), Lito Vitale (cuarteto), Rubén Rada, Alfredo Casero (Halibour Fiberglass Sereneiders), los hermanos Fatorusso (Hugo y Osvaldo) y Dino Saluzzi en Argentina y el Allem Young Blood Quartet cuando vivio en Los Angeles.
Tambien ha colaborado compartiendo escenarios, shows en vivo y/o grabaciones con Alphonso Johnson, Raul Carnota, Horacio Larumbe, Javier Malosetti, Fernando Kabusacki, Pedro Aznar entre muchos otros.
En 1999 tomando finalmente la ritmica rioplatense como sello realiza su primer tour europeo en Italia, y luego del cual regresa cada año presentandose ademas de Italia en Austria y Suiza con su quinteto formado por Gustavo Liamgot (teclado/acordeon), Cristian Judurcha (bateria), Mario Gusso (percusion), Fausto Beccalossi (inv especial en acordeon). Su ultimo cd. solista llamado Dos Zorros, (Epumer significa "zorro" en mapuche) tiene como invitado especial una gloria de la musica argentina, Luis Alberto Spinetta y fue producido por Pedro Aznar quien tambien toco en varios tracks.
La propuesta musical de Lito Epumer transita los caminos del llamado "jazz argentino", un lugar donde confluyen el folklore y el candombe con una mirada contemporanea y personal. Sus composiciones mantienen los elementos relacionados con la improvisacion y algunas armonias que tienen que ver con el jazz, pero fundamentalmente sus temas "miran para adentro" con un sonido que identifica sus origenes y su tierra. |
